Agriculture
Fertile soils and ideal weather make Arroyo Grande one of the
finest agricultural producing regions in the world. Wine grapes make
up the largest percentage of value crops at 24%, and the area is
rich in vegetable and fruit production. Fields of broccoli,
strawberries, lettuce, oriental vegetables, and peas flourish in the
rich pockets of land surrounding Arroyo Grande.
The history of the Arroyo Grande Valley vegetable farmers is a
compelling story of friendship, and a testimony to the honor and
integrity of the local families who lived and worked the fields as
well as their descendants. Their dedication to good land stewardship
is evidenced by fields that produce bumper crops of as many as 24
different vegetables three times a year and are sold worldwide,
generating millions of dollars for the local economy.
